City of Regina fires director of planning and sustainability

The city of Regina has fired another high ranking employee.

Bob Bjerke confirmed to Global News that he was fired without cause as director of planning and sustainability Thursday morning, and then was escorted out of the building. He says the firing came completely out of the blue. The city says it wants a change of leadership in the department.

Among the projects that Bjerke was involved in was the city square redevelopment downtown, as well as the formation of several community plans for areas around the downtown core.

Bjerke spent more than two years in the director’s role, transforming the department into more of a big, modern city operation. He was with the city for about ten years overall. A public search will be launched to find his replacement.

He is the second director fired by the city in recent months. David Onodera was let go as Transit Director in early December.
