PICTOU, N.S. – A DNA expert who took the stand Thursday at the murder trial of Christopher Falconer made a link between him and Amber Kirwan.

Dr. Thomas Suzanski testified that Kirwan’s DNA was present on black cloth and duct tape found in a camper trailer where Falconer sometimes slept.

Falconer’s step-sister owns the camper property.

Suzanski said no DNA evidence was found to suggest Kirwan was sexually assaulted.

Deno Miller, a friend of Falconer who was supposed to take the stand Wednesday but did not show up, was the first witness to testify.

Lori Campbell told the provincial Supreme Court in Pictou that an autopsy revealed Kirwan had codeine, acetaminophen, alcohol and morphine in her blood.

Campbell also told the jury that codeine and acetaminophen was found on two pieces of evidence gathered from a trailer in Hardwood Hill and from a car belonging to Falconer.

Falconer has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Kirwan, 19, who disappeared in October 2011 after spending the night with friends at a pool hall in New Glasgow.

Her bound and naked body was found in a muddy, shallow grave in the woods near New Glasgow about a month later.
