The bottom of Mannion Bay on Bowen Island is littered with sunken boats and on the surface dozens more derelicts destined to join them.
Local residents are concerned about the effect this treacherous obstacle course is having on the environment and on business.
Mannion Bay used to be a popular spot for weekend boaters, but now it’s a haven for derelicts.
After many months of requesting assistance, federal and provincial officials finally showed up a few weeks ago in Mannion Bay and posted 30 day notices to shape up or ship out.
So while the province is responsible for docks and floats, they will not be helping with the cleanup or the bill
The federal government will be at least paying 25 per cent of the cost to remove buoys and boats
To cover the rest, Bowen Island will be holding a fundraiser.
