TORONTO — It’s one of the most sickening, disturbing and mean-spirited hidden-camera pranks ever posted online. So, of course, it has become a viral sensation.

The studio behind the new horror film Devil’s Due used an animatronic baby in a remote-controlled stroller to scare the beelzebub out of passers-by in New York City.

As concerned people approach the stroller, the creepy-looking tot springs to life — resulting in screams and heart-attack-worthy reactions.

(Perhaps more disturbing than the devilish infant is the complete lack of reaction by a city worker at the 1:00 mark.)

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The “Devil Baby” is also seeing flipping the bird and projectile-vomiting.

Major studios are increasingly using viral videos to promote their movies. Last October, Sony posted a spooky prank video to promote its made-in-Toronto reboot of Carrie. It has had 52.8 million views.

Devil’s Due follows a couple who discover they’re expecting the spawn of Satan. It opens Jan. 17.
