A Vancouver Island RCMP officer is off the force amid an investigation into child pornography allegations.
The officer, who’s based in Sidney, was arrested in late December 2013. While the investigation continues and approval by Crown Counsel is still pending, the recommended charges include one count of possession of child porn and one count of production of child pornography.
While the officer hasn’t been convicted of anything, the force says a code of conduct investigation was launched shortly after his arrest and his discharge documents were accepted within 24 hours.
The name of the accused has not yet been released due to the ongoing investigation and charges not being formally laid. He’s due in court on February 20.
The officer is now considered a private citizen and as such, he will no longer be subject to any discipline under the RCMP Act.
