TORONTO – A man has died after being trapped underneath a partially collapsed roof in Mississauga.

The collapse happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday near the Sheridan Centre at 2225 Erin Mills Parkway.

It’s unclear what led to the collapse. Emergency crews, including paramedics, firefighters and police, worked for close to 1.5 hours to rescue the man.

The victim has not yet been identified.

A statement from PCL Constructors Canada Ltd. issued a statement Monday afternoon expressed the company’s shock at the incident.

“PCL is deeply shocked and saddened by the incident that happened this morning at our construction site located at the Sheridan Centre in Mississauga, resulting in the death of a subtrade worker. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends for their loss,” the statement read. “PCL is fully cooperating with the investigation into this incident and has no further details to share at this time.

The shopping mall is located less than a kilometre north of the QEW.
