Thank you B.C.: Variety Show of Hearts Telethon raises $6.6 million

The Variety Show of Hearts telethon raised $6,671,138 for B.C. children, and there’s still time to donate.

The telethon took place at the Hard Rock Casino Theatre in Coquitlam and featured live performances from the Royal City Musical Theatre production of “Annie;” “Shrek The Musical;” “The Dog Song;” and “Freshh.”

Last year’s telethon raised more than $7.1 million for children with special needs in B.C.

The first telethon was staged in October 1966 and raised $60,000. The Show of Hearts is the longest running telethon in Canada.

Every year, Variety gives grants for medical emergencies, therapies, specialized equipment, drug prescriptions and out-of-town accommodation and travel costs.
