ABOVE: York Regional Police investigate a shooting in Richmond Hill
RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – Police say they believe three people shot overnight north of Toronto – two of them fatally – were targeted.
York Regional Police say they haven’t been able to identify the victims and are appealing to anyone who may be missing loved ones to contact investigators.
Police are looking for two male suspects after a man and a woman were fatally shot in a vehicle parked near a townhouse complex in Richmond Hill shortly after midnight.
Another man was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Const. Andy Pattenden says evidence collected by investigators suggests the shooting (near Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive East) was not a random crime.
Officers called to the scene for reports of gunshots found a vehicle in the parking lot with three people inside suffering from gunshot wounds.
The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the two male victims were transported to hospital, where one of them died of his injuries.
“We’re talking about a residential complex in a neighbourhood where there’s a lot of folks that live here and it happened late at night,” Pattenden said. “There was obviously the sound of multiple gunshots.”
