TORONTO – The City of Toronto’s integrity commissioner is looking into a possible code of conduct violation against Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti stemming from a $5,000-a-table fundraiser held for him last May.

A statement obtained by the Toronto Star says the Ward 7 councillor was a guest of honour at an event that was organized following Mammoliti’s brain surgery earlier this year.

The fundraiser at the Royalton Banquet Hall & Conference Centre in Woodbridge was attended by family members, business people and lobbyists.

Under the city’s code of conduct, elected officials are not allowed to receive gifts or benefits associated “with the performance of his or her duties of office.”

The integrity commissioner’s investigation derived from a complaint lodged by Toronto lawyer Brian Iler.

The punishment for a code of conduct breach can include a reprimand or a penalty of up to 90 days’ salary.
