Victim of North Vancouver homicide identified

UPDATE Sunday, December 1, 2013 5 p.m. – 

IHIT has identified the victim of a deadly shooting Saturday in North Vancouver as 69-year-old Rostam Poulad-Noshiravan.

“Mr. Poulad-Noshiravan was not known to police and investigators are in the process of determining a motive for this case. We are asking anyone who may have information about this case to please come forward. The victim’s family are shocked by this incident and also hoping that tips from the public and those who may know something can assist the investigators in getting some answers,” says Sergeant Bari Emam of IHIT.

Poulad worked in the entertainment industry and was a well-known concert promoter. He was well-known in the Iranian community.

A grey or silver import style car was seen driving away from the crime scene, according to police. A man in his 60s is dead in North Vancouver’s first homicide of the year.

IHIT says the man was shot in the 4000-block of St. Georges Avenue at 1:18 p.m. Saturday.

“I can confirm that IHIT has taken conduct of this case. The victim is a man in his 60’s. We are in the process of completing the notification of next of kin. Efforts were made to save the victim’s life by the first responders, but unfortunately he died as a result of his injuries. We are in the early hours of this investigation and are hoping to learn more about the motive and circumstances surrounding this homicide,” says Sergeant Bari Emam of IHIT.

RCMP initially responded, and IHIT was later called and has since assumed conduct of this investigation. Members of the North Vancouver RCMP, West Vancouver Police Department, Lower Mainland’s Forensic Identification Section, and the Integrated First Nations Policing are also assisting with the investigation.

The search for a suspect caused traffic chaos on the North Shore for several hours Saturday afternoon. Police initially closed the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, but it was later re-opened to single-lane traffic heading southbound. All cars heading southbound were checked by members of the RCMP. The Lions Gate Bridge was also closed for a short time heading southbound.
