Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem announced the central bank raised its benchmark interest rate by another 25 basis points, bringing it to five per cent — the highest level Canadians have seen since 2001. Due to unexpected inflationary pressures, Macklem said there may be more hikes to come.
