NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg reaffirmed on Tuesday that Ukraine would be welcomed into the Western defence alliance as a member, but said members must first ensure that Ukraine “prevails as a sovereign independent nation.” He said that would be a pre-condition of any “meaningful discussion” on the topic.
