Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his “deepest condolences” on Wednesday to the families of the two officers killed following a shootout in Innisfil, Ont., on Tuesday night. The officers have been identified as Const. Devon Northrup, 33, and Const. Morgan Russell, 54. Trudeau also outlined his government’s efforts to keep guns off the streets, including stepping up efforts to intercept guns at the border, an assault-style weapons ban and, he says, a freeze on handgun sales.
