Germany reckons with the return of coal amid global energy crunch

Russia’s war with Ukraine is putting a squeeze on global energy supplies. Countries like Germany and the Netherlands are turning to the world’s dirtiest fossil fuel – coal – to make sure they have enough energy for the coming months. The good news is, the shift is temporary, and doesn’t signal a move away from renewables like wind and solar.
