Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday that Canada would impose severe new sanctions on Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a large-scale military attack on Ukraine. The sanctions, he said, would target Russian oligarchs and their families, the Wagner Group and major Russian banks. Trudeau said the Russian defence minister, finance minister and justice minister would also be targeted and that Canada would cease all export permits to Russia.
