Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday he is “deeply disappointed” in the Catholic Church for its refusal to apologize for the traumas that occurred in residential schools across the country, adding that he “directly” asked the Pope several years ago to apologize, offer restitution and make records available. He said if necessary the government would “take stronger measures” to compel the release of these documents.
