A Texas federal judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit brought by Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas and several Arizona Republicans that would have empowered Vice President Mike Pence to throw out election results. Pence and the Justice Department had made the request to dismiss the case. Soon a New Congress will begin — with lawmakers bracing for a series of challenges during next week’s electoral vote counting. Those objections are expected to delay, but not overturn Congressional certification of President-elect Biden’s win.
