Pope Francis on Sunday called for the respect of justice and rights in Belarus, where tens of thousands of people are taking to the streets urging President Alexander Lukashenko to quit after a contested presidential election. The pope added that his thoughts were with “dear Belarus” as he closely follows the situation of the country.
