Three police officers who had sent a photo of themselves smiling and mimicking a chokehold claimed it was to cheer up a fellow officer who had been involved in the death of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man who died after an encounter with police in which he was placed in a chokehold and later sedated. The Aurora, Colo. interim police chief, Vanessa Williams, on Friday said they were “ashamed” and “sickened” with the actions by the officers. A fourth officer involved in the group chat where the photo was shared resigned following information that surfaced saying he responded to the photo by writing “ha ha”.
