In Montreal, an unidentified man told NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, a practising Sikh, on Oct. 2 that he should take off his turban in order to “look Canadian.” The issues of race and identity, which have emerged as key themes during this election, is especially visceral in Quebec where earlier this year, Bill 21 was passed, banning servants in positions of authority from wearing visible religious symbols.
