Okanagan library patrons seriously injured by out-of-control SUV

RCMP continue to investigate what they’re calling a tragic incident in Peachland Wednesday afternoon.

A BMW SUV, driven by a 71-year-old woman, was travelling through the parking lot of a shopping plaza at 4 p.m. when it jumped a curb, crossed a sidewalk and drove into the front window of the public library, according to RCMP.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said one man, said to be in his 40s, was critically injured. Another person is in serious condition, while three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver was taken to hospital for assessment by a doctor.

RCMP Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Services (ICARS) were at the scene into Wednesday night attempting to examine the damage.
