Canadian agencies ill-equipped to tackle growing cybercrime threat, auditor general finds

On Tuesday, Auditor General Karen Hogan said three key agencies (RCMP, the Communications Security Establishment’s cyber spy agency and the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission) lacked the capacity and tools to protect Canadians from cyberattacks and tackle the growing threat of online crime. “We found that these organizations have neither the capacity nor the tools to effectively fight cybercrime,” she said, adding,” The current system for reporting cyber incidents is confusing and it does not meet the needs of individuals reporting these crimes.”
