Sean Durkin, the director behind the Zac Efron-led biopic about the legendary Von Erich wrestling family, said in an interview with Global News’ Kathryn Mannie that he was drawn to the tragic story because of the love between brothers – but also because of the questions it raises about masculinity. The film tells a cautionary tale of toxic masculinity and intergenerational trauma, showing the lengths a son will go to in pursuit of his father’s dream and the ultimate price paid.
