Canada’s top soldier says ‘persistent presence’ in west Pacific challenged by budget restraints

Gen. Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff, said during a panel discussion at the Halifax Security Forum on Saturday that Canada’s ability to maintain a “persistent presence” of warships in the west Pacific faces challenges under the current budget. Eyre said Canada has three frigates operating in the region but all are reaching the end of their 30-year lifespan.
