Jodie Kehl, executive director of the Manitoba Child Care Association, says inconsistent messaging from the province about funding over the past few days has caused a lot of stress.

Manitoba childcare workers should not 'be on the front lines of sickness' as COVID-19 moves through the province, says an early childhood educator.

The petition, developed by the Manitoba Child Care Association (MCCA), asks the provincial government for increased funding to licensed, not-for-profit child care programs, and to recognize the importance of these programs to families throughout the province.

Manitoba announced new child care spots Friday, with $22.8 million invested through the Canada-Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. 

A majority of Manitobans wouldn't mind paying a little more in taxes if it went to child care in the province.

Ontario is banning all child care wait list fees at licensed day cares and home agencies as of Sept. 1. Global News checked in with western provinces to see if any plan to follow suit.
