Kelp which can grow 20 to 30 metres tall from the ocean floor and provides food and shelter for thousands of marine species while absorbing carbon from the atmosphere.

Over the last three decades kelp biomass has dropped by 85 to 99 per cent in areas that stretch along 110 kilometres of coastline.
