Police and wildlife officials spent the day tracking a moose which had wandered into the town on Thursday morning.

The Kawartha Lakes Police Service posted on social media that officers were in the town’s south end “attempting to assist” a moose back into its natural habitat.

“We ask onlookers to keep their distance to avoid startling the animal,” police said.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has been contacted about the animal, police said.

At 11 a.m., police reported MNRF officials were on scene to assist police.

In an update issued just before 3 p.m., police said the moose was safely relocated by ministry staff. The service released this short video on its social media feeds.
