The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 1:35 a.m. on Feb. 22 in the 800 block of Shelborne Street, just northeast of Commissioners and Pond Mills roads, police said.

Emergency crews responded to the scene for a report of possible gunshots, and at the scene located evidence that a firearm had been discharged, police said at the time, noting that no injuries were reported.

Two months on, police say two 17-year-old boys have been charged in connection with the case. Because they are under 18, their names cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both are jointly charged with discharging a firearm in a reckless manner, and possessing a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm, police said.

One faces four separate counts of possessing a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The other faces multiple separate counts, including two counts of carelessly storing a firearm, prohibited device, or ammunition; two counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; and two counts of possessing a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Other counts against the accused include possessing a firearm knowing the serial number had been tampered with, and failure to comply with sentence.

The pair were both scheduled to appear in court on Monday by video, police said.
