London, Ont. police investigate Monday morning stabbing at school, teenager arrested

London, Ont., police say a teenage girl was arrested Monday morning following a stabbing at a school near the city’s downtown.

At 11:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a stabbing at H.B. Beal Secondary School.

According to police, a suspect was arrested and a female victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police told Global News that the stabbing occurred inside the school.

Carter, a student at H.B. Beal who requested that his last name not be released, said that the morning was a “strange” experience.

“We’re used to having ‘hold and secures’ just for local community members and stuff like that, but we weren’t really sure what had went on until we heard the rumors,” he said.

He told Global News that prior to the stabbing, he witnessed a fight break out in the halls of the school, however no information has been provided from police to suggest that the two incidents are linked together.

“Not really normal behavior for this school so it’s certainly a little disturbing,” Carter added

Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) officials said in an email that members of their Traumatic Events Response Team (TERT) are available to support students and staff “in processing the impact of this event.”

The investigation is ongoing and police say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
