TORONTO – Toronto police are appealing for witnesses to a fight that began outside a downtown nightclub and ended with two young men left badly beaten on the sidewalk.
Det. Sgt. Pauline Gray says Danny La, 22 – one of the victims in the Sept. 30 incident – died in hospital on Sunday, and his death is now being investigated as a homicide.
The cause of La’s death was found to be multiple blunt force trauma to the head but Gray would not confirm earlier reports that the weapon involved was a baseball bat.

Gray says the second man, who is not being identified, remains in hospital.
Police are looking for four or five men believed to be the assailants in the attack, described by witnesses as Asian men aged 21 to 25.
Gray says police believe some of the assailants may also have been injured during the fight and they are asking people to think back to the day of the incident and anyone they know who may fit the assailants’ description.
Gray said Friday that police believe La and his friends were involved in an altercation with another group outside the nightclub and then were attacked while getting food at another location. A third member of La’s group was also hurt but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Gray says La was placed on life support but never regained consciousness.
“This is not just a group of young men having fisticuffs here,” Gray said. “This is a vicious, vicious assault… the level of violence is quite shocking.”
