Toddler present during drug bust

PENTICTON — When police raided a Penticton home looking for drugs, they also found a young child.

A 28-year old couple was arrested after RCMP found drugs in their apartment.

On Wednesday, October 16, the Penticton RCMP Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at an apartment unit on Fairview Road and Scott Avenue.

“A search of the unit uncovered over 15 grams of methamphetamine and 14 grams of cocaine, cell phones and drug trafficking paraphernalia, including an air pistol replica handgun,” says Corporal Dan Moskaluk, South Okanagan RCMP Spokesperson.

While the search was happening, a 4-year-old girl was watching television.

RCMP investigators have contacted the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Corporal Moskaluk says the toddler is now placed with a suitable family representative.

The couple was eventually released from police custody.

RCMP say Mandy Jo Squakin is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and meth.
