Dozens charged in Project Mosquito grow-op busts in Ontario’s Durham Region

WHITBY, Ont. – Police say a two-month investigation into illegal marijuana production has led to dozens of arrests in Durham Region, east of Toronto.

The investigation, dubbed Project Mosquito, took place in August and September after police received complaints from members of the community about illegal grow-ops in the area.

Police say 56 people are facing a total of 176 charges.

More than 4,100 marijuana plants and 45 kilograms of dried marijuana were seized, along with hashish and other illegal substances.

Police say four firearms and a quantity of illegal firearm parts, such as silencers and over-capacity magazines, were confiscated.

Two vehicles and $44,655 in cash were also seized as offence-related property.
