EDMONTON- Charges against a Grande Prairie man have been upgraded after a passenger of a taxi cab involved in a collision Wednesday morning passed away.

A 25-year-old Edmonton man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries early Wednesday morning, after a two-vehicle collision near the NAIT campus. Police say the man was one of four passengers in a taxi cab that was struck by a BMW that allegedly crossed the median near 107th Street and 121st Avenue.

Officers say the 25-year-old was placed on life support, but died of his injuries Friday afternoon.

Chris Lindgren, of Grande Prairie, is now facing upgraded charges including criminal hit-and-run causing death, four counts of criminal hit-and-run causing bodily harm and possession of stolen property.

Additional charges may be laid against the 21-year-old, pending the outcome of toxicology results.

This is Edmonton’s 22nd traffic fatality of 2013.
