Human remains found in Toronto dumpster could be child or infant, sources say

Police are investigating after a human remains were found in a dumpster used at a construction site in Toronto.

Police sources told Global News the human remains are those of a very small person — possibly a child or an infant.

In a tweet, Toronto police said officers responded to a “medical complaint” around 4:46 p.m. Monday. The call was to the area of Castle Frank Road and Dale Avenue, just to the north of the Castle Frank Subway Station.

Police said a dead body was found when they began to investigate. They did not elaborate on who first discovered the remains.

The “circumstances of the death appear suspicious,” according to Toronto police.

A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service said it would not comment until the cause of death was determined.

In an update Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson said the human remains have been taken in for an autopsy. The autopsy is expected to take place Wednesday and its results could also make it clear how long the person has been dead.

The age and gender of the remains has not yet been confirmed and is pending the outcome of the autopsy, police said.

A perimeter was setup in the area and the force’s forensic team is investigating.
