Man dies after being shot ‘multiple times’ in downtown Toronto: police

A 35-year-old man has died after being shot “multiple times” in Toronto on Saturday evening, police say.

Officers said several people called to report multiple gunshots and that somebody had been shot. Police arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound and several casings.

In an update, Toronto police said the suspect was last seen walking west along Dundas Street.

He was described as a Black man between 35 and 40 years of age. Police said he had short hair and wore a light long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and a blue surgical mask.

The calls came around 6:55 p.m. Saturday night in the area of Dundas Street East and George Street, near Moss Park, police said.

The victim was transported to hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Police named the victim as Elijah Eleazar Mahepath from Toronto.

The shooting marks Toronto’s 20th homicide of 2022.
