Hamilton police’s first reported fatality of 2022 in the city is a man and his dog, hit by a vehicle near the east Mountain on Sunday night.
Investigators are categorizing the collision as a ‘fail to remain at the scene’ incident which happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of Lawrence Road near Cochrane Road, west of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and King Street East.
“Upon arrival police located a pedestrian and dog on the ground,” Const. Indy Bharaj told Global News in an email on Monday morning.
“The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.”
In an afternoon update, Bharaj said the dog, 3, succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The male pedestrian, 70, later died shortly after arriving at a hospital.
It’s believed the suspect vehicle is a white Chevrolet and may have “front end” damage.
The HPS Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken on the investigation and are looking for witnesses to the occurrence.
