Investing in the Boundary Dam Project

SaskPower has chosen Hitachi Canadian Industries to supply the steam turbine for the Boundary Dam Project near Estevan. "SaskPower’s relationship with Hitachi goes back 40 years, and includes work on coal, natural gas and wind generation technologies," Premier Wall said in a media release Tuesday afternoon. This is expected to be the first steam turbine in the world designed to fully integrate a coal-fired power plant with carbon capture. According to the Saskatchewan Government, the Boundary Dam project would transform the aging power station near Estevan into a long-term producer of clean electricty, enhance provincial oil production, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A decision on whether to proceed wtih the Boundary Dam project will be made by the end of 2010.
