Canada election: Thérèse-De Blainville

This riding is located north of Laval and Montreal. It includes the towns of Sainte-Thérèse, Lorraine, Blainville and Bois-des-Filion in the Thérèse-De Blainville Regional County Municipality.

Before a redistribution order in 2012, the northern half of the riding was part of Terrebonne-Blainville, while the southern half was part of Marc-Aurèle-Fortin.

Thérèse-De Blainville is mostly francophone, with French being the first official language spoken for almost 93 per cent of the population

The riding has a history of being a Bloc Quebecois stronghold, with the party holding power from 1997 to 2011. NDP candidate Charmaine Borg broke that streak when she won the riding in the 2011 election. Liberal candidate Ramez Ayoub won the seat with 33 per cent of the vote during the red wave of 2015.

During the 2019 federal election, the BQ were able to recapture the riding when voters elected Louise Chabot to represent them.

Chabot won with 41.8 per cent of the vote, with Ayoub garnering 35.8 per cent. Conservative and NDP candidates trailed in a distant third and fourth.
