Bio: Maya Gallus

Maya Gallus’s feature-length documentary Erotica: A Journey Into Female Sexuality premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and screened theatrically in Toronto, San Francisco, Tokyo and San Sebastian. Erotica was broadcast on TVOntario’s The View From Here, as well as internationally, and was nominated for Best Arts Documentary at Hot Docs and Best Feature-Length Documentary at the Genie Awards.

She also directed, wrote and co-produced the award-winning documentary Elizabeth Smart: On The Side of the Angels, nominated for Best Direction at the Gemini Awards. On The Side of the Angels was originally broadcast on CBC’s Adrienne Clarkson Presents and TVOntario, as well as internationally. The film won three Golden Sheaf Awards at the Yorkton Film Festival, including Best Production of the Festival, Best Arts Documentary and Best Editing, plus Best Narration at the Atlantic Film Festival.

Maya Gallus was co-creative producer and co-director, with Justine Pimlott, on Punch Like A Girl. They each received two nominations for Best Direction in a Documentary Series at the Gemini Awards.

She has also directed and written several biographies for CBC’s Life & Times, including Full Circle: The Untold Story of the Dionne Quintuplets, among others, and has directed for various television reality series, including Heart Beats, Little Miracles, Family Dance and Buy Me.

She produced and wrote the hour -long film Fag Hags: Women Who Love Gay Men

,wrote & directed the feature documentary Girl Inside, which premiered at Hot Docs 2007 and was broadcast in TV Ontarios’s The View From Here, Knowledge Network & MTV-Logo and most recently Maya won a Gemini for Best Direction for Girl Inside as well as a nomination for the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary.
