Guelph reported one more death connected with COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the city’s death toll to 23 during the pandemic.
Public health saw nine deaths in the city related to COVID-19 in the month of January.
Another 65 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Monday, bringing Guelph’s case count to 2,357.
Monday’s data encompasses the entire weekend as active cases fell by 15 from Friday to 272, while another 79 people have recovered, bringing the total resolved cases to 2,062.
Three people are in the hospital being treated for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Along with nine deaths, Guelph reported 1,024 new COVID-19 cases in January, while 921 people recovered.
Wellington County
Wellington County reported another death related to COVID-19 on Monday, bringing its death toll to 18.
Public Health reported 12 deaths in the county in January, many stemming from a deadly outbreak at a care facility in the Township of Wellington North.
Another 11 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Wellington County on Monday, raising the county’s total case count to 899 during the pandemic.
Monday’s data encompasses the entire weekend as active cases fell by 18 from Friday to 71. That includes five people in the hospital being treated for the novel coronavirus.
Another 28 people have recovered from the disease, bringing the county’s total resolved case count to 810.
COVID-19 outbreaks
There are seven active COVID-19 outbreaks among Guelph and Wellington County long-term care and retirement homes.
The latest was reported at LaPointe-Fisher Nursing Home in Guelph where one resident has tested positive for the virus.
An outbreak at the Village of Riverside Glen continues to grow with 17 new cases being reported over the weekend, bringing the total case count to 127. Three people have died during the outbreak that was declared on Dec. 10.
The long-term care unit at Caressant Care in Wellington North is still under an outbreak which has seen 110 cases since Dec. 26, including 10 deaths.
COVID-19 vaccines
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has paused vaccinations after they began on Jan. 6 due to production delays.
The health unit has administered 6,553 doses, which includes residents and patients of all long-term care and retirement homes in the area.
Second-dose vaccinations are not expected to begin until at least Thursday.
Public Health is scheduled to receive about 50 per cent of its delivery from Pfizer this week along with 3,700 doses from Moderna.
