CALGARY – Police have a man in custody after officers say he ran from police in an alleged stolen vehicle down Deerfoot Trail early Sunday.

Police say around 2:20 am Sunday, officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle near Deerfoot Trail and Freeport Boulevard NE.

When they arrived police confronted a man and a woman as they got into a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan.

Police say the vehicle left the area and began driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail.

Officers say because of the risk the vehicle was causing to the public, cruisers attempted to block the minivan, and it rammed the police vehicles in an attempt to flee.

The suspect vehicle suffered significant damage and could not be moved.
