Sea to Sky Gondola cable cut a 2nd time by vandals

The Sea to Sky Gondola cable has been cut for a second time.

Dozens of cars have come crashing down after the cable was cut early Monday morning.

Squamish RCMP said they were contacted at 4 a.m. by the security team at the gondola saying the line had been cut and cars had crashed into the mountain.

Luckily, no one was injured.

An employee for the attraction confirmed to Global News that it appears this is the second act of vandalism after the cable was cut more than a year ago.

That shut down the attraction for several months.

Squamish RCMP, the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section, West Vancouver police and the Integrated Police Dog Services are now on scene.

Climbing routes, hiking trails and parking lots in the area have all been closed.

A camper who was sleeping in a tent nearby said she heard the crash around 4 a.m.

“It was pretty much trees falling and then metal sounds,” Zoe Desjardins said. “It was loud enough to wake me up.”

Desjardins also said she was camping in the area when the cable was cut last year.
