Iconic Canadian artist Alex Colville is being remembered as an influential force in the modern art scene and a painter whose creativity sparked tributes in film, music and television.
Colville passed away Tuesday at his home in Wolfville, N.S. and leaves behind a long legacy of original work that reached far beyond the art world.
His work was accessible, memorable and reached millions of Canadians through a myriad of avenues including art galleries, magazines, book covers, postcards, posters, television, coins and even via the cover of a Bruce Cockburn album.

Colville’s work inspired filmmakers Michael Mann and Wes Anderson, who both paid homage to the artist in their movies Heat and Moonrise Kingdom respectively.
