Edmonton – A woman has been arrested and charged with impaired driving after she was spotted driving a vehicle with two blown out tires and sparks flying from the rims.
The incident started at around 2:45 a.m. last Tuesday when someone called police about a possible drunk driver. The same person tried to convince the allegedly impaired woman not to drive away, but was unsuccessful.
Originally, police could not find the alleged drunk driver.
Shortly before 5 a.m., police received a second phone call from another person who saw a vehicle driving with two blown from tires and sparks flying from the rims.
Police eventually stopped the vehicle in the west end.
The driver was charged with impaired driving and blowing over 80 mg %.
A second person who was inside the vehicle was also arrested.
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) received 738 calls in June from Edmontonians reporting suspected impaired drivers. It resulted in 75 people being charged with impaired driving, and 15 people receiving license suspensions.
Since the start of the Curb the Danger program, there have been 57,511 calls into Curb the Danger, resulting in 5,564 people being charged with impaired driving, and 1,752 drivers having their licence suspended.
