Fire damages building housing two Lakefield businesses

Fire broke out at Gerry's Bait and Tackle shop in Lakefield on Thursday afternoon – Feb 13, 2020

No one was injured after fire broke out at Lakefield building housing two businesses.

Around 4:15 p.m., Selwyn Township firefighters and OPP responded to reports of a fire at 3363 Lakefield Road, a building which consists of Gerry’s Bait and Tackle store and an art supply store.

Thick smoke billowed from the bait store, following the road entering the village.

Peterborough County OPP diverted traffic along Lakefield Road/County Road 29 between Seaforth Crescent and Bridge Street as firefighters battled the stubborn blaze in frigid temperatures.

 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Selwyn Township fire chief Gord Jopling.

Lakefield Road reopened around 7 p.m., according to OPP.
