Elgin County OPP are investigating a fatal crash that left one person dead in the Aylmer area on Monday afternoon.
It was around 5:20 p.m. when Elgin County OPP, along with fire and paramedics were called to a two-vehicle collision on John Wise Line between Rogers Road and Imperial Road.
In an update Tuesday morning, the OPP said an eastbound vehicle crossed over into the westbound lane, colliding with another vehicle.
Officers said they initially reported the westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, which was not the case.
OPP further clarified that the passenger of the westbound vehicle later died in hospital as a result of their injuries. They’ve been identified as 62-year-old Susana Peters of Bayham.
The driver of the westbound vehicle has been discharged from hospital and the driver of the eastbound vehicle is listed in fair condition.
The crash left the roadway closed for an extended period overnight, but reopened around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday.
