A Global News photographer on the scene says the street was closed but opened again at about 7:30 a.m.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) said they were called to the fire just after 1:45 a.m., where they encountered heavy smoke coming from the house.

Fire crews initially tackled the fire from the interior of the house, but were forced out due to ‘deteriorating conditions’ of the structure.

By 4:43 a.m., WFPS said the fire was under control. The house suffered significant damage, but no estimates are currently available.

No one was in the house at the time of the blaze, although a neighbouring house was evacuated as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
