A major crash implicating two trucks and seven vehicles has forced the closure of Highway 440 west in Laval, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said.
Four people have died, the SQ confirmed.
Twelve people were transported to hospital, and three of them are fighting for their lives, police said.
The vehicles burst into flames following the crash, which happened at around 3:40 p.m. Monday, according to SQ spokesperson Marie-Pier Lorrain.
“It seems like one truck hit another car and then other cars were hit by the collision,” Lorrain said.
A total of nine vehicles were involved.
Highway 440 and the service road are closed westbound, on a 4 km stretch, between Industriel Boulevard and Highway 15, said Transport Quebec spokesperson Sarah Bensadoun.
Only one lane is open on the 440 east, for now, Bensadoun said.
Authorities are at the crash site to determine the cause of the accident.
