Cranbrook babysitter guilty; gets 6 months in jail

Cranbrook, B.C. babysitter Tammy Bouvette was sentenced to six months in jail for negligence cause the death of 19-month-old Iyanna Teeple in May 2010. Global News

Cranbrook babysitter, Tammy Bouvette, who pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing the death of a young toddler, is going to jail for six months.

Iyanna Teeple was found face down in a bathtub in May 2010, while in Bouvette’s care. The babysitter claims she left the 19- month- old alone in the bath for just a minute while she attended to her own child. Iyanna later died in hospital.

Bouvette was facing a charge of second degree murder but she pled guilty to a lesser offence. Today she was sentenced to a year in jail minus time served.

She was also sentenced to one year on a robbery charge that will be served consecutively.

Bouvette will be on probation for 2 years and has been banned from looking after any children under 6, excluding her own.
