TORONTO — Canadian actor-comedian Tommy Chong says he’s beaten prostate cancer with a treatment regimen that included hemp oil.
“I’m cancer-free,” Chong wrote in a blog post. “That’s right, I kicked cancer’s a**!”
The Edmonton-born, Calgary-raised star — one-half of the Cheech and Chong comedy duo — was diagnosed with prostate cancer last June. He told CNN he believes he got it while serving time in a California prison in 2003-2004.

Chong, who turns 75 this month, says a doctor recommended a high frequency treatment not approved in the U.S. that would cost about $25,000 in Mexico.
“I immediately looked at alternatives,” Chong writes. His nephew in Vancouver, a medical student, suggested a meeting with a doctor in Victoria.
“That doctor changed my diet and put me on supplements, and within a year I brought my PSA numbers down drastically and eliminated the cancer threat,” explains Chong. “I also treated the condition with hemp oil (hash oil).”
Chong says he also had a session with Burnaby, B.C.-based healer Adam McLeod.
The longtime pot advocate concludes: “The magic plant does cure cancer with the right diet and supplements. I feel the best I’ve felt in years.”
